Memphis Health Center Inc. will unveil its new $256,000 renovated pharmacy and introduce its new management team Thursday.
The federally qualified health center recently completed an upgrade of its pharmacy that included installation of a new auto dispensing system and construction of a separate and private area for consultations, said Brian Wallace, chief operations officer for Memphis Health Center. Memphis-based Plough Foundation provided funding for the project. The new automated system will not only speed up filling pharmacy orders but will reduce human error. “It is time for this organization, I believe, to become much more technologically advanced,” Wallace said. “The pharmacy is the start of that.” Along with the open house and unveiling of the new pharmacy, the public will get to meet a new executive leadership team at Memphis Health Center headed by Willeen Hastings, who moved from interim CEO to CEO late last year. The nonprofit has since hired a new CFO, human resources director and chief medical officer. Wallace started just two months ago. “We’ve gone through a lot of management changes,” he said. The theme of Thursday’s event, which starts at 5 p.m., is “Seeing Memphis Health Center through New Lenses,” a reference to the changes the center has undergone the last year. Hastings, who had a long career in health care administration before coming to Memphis Health Center, has restructured the organization top to bottom, Wallace said. “The organization is in much better condition than it was before in terms of management and strategic direction,” he said. “Our mission is to provide comprehensive affordable care in a community that may not have insurance.” Last year the center recorded 53,275 patient visits, including nearly 15,000 unique patient visits. “The Plough Foundation believes in quality care for both the insured and uninsured citizens in our community,”Scott McCormick, Plough Foundation executive director, said in a release. “We are impressed with the number of clients Memphis Health Center serves and know that the renovated pharmacy will be an extra benefit for them.” Memphis Health Center was founded in 1973.
